1.1.1.1 Founding period

 

From 1863 to 1880, French scientists C.Friedel and J.M. crafts, along with A. ladenberg and others, did a great deal of work. They have noticed silicon and silicon-carbon compounds and conducted extensive and in-depth research.

After that, Friedel and Ladenburg, without sealing the tubes, produced various substituted silanes by the reaction of diethyl zinc with triethoxysilane and metallic sodium, such as ethyl chlorosilane, ethyl ethoxysilane, phenyl chlorosilane, etc.

  DOW CORNING Inc. (DOW Corning G.f. Hyde of CO., W.J.Patnode and E.G.Roch-owt of General electric company (http://G.E.CO) recognized that organosilicon polymers have great application prospects. They actively improved the synthesis method of the raw material for synthesizing polymers - organosilicon monomers, leading it onto the path of industrialization. By the late 1930s, Dow Corning's method of synthesizing organochlorosilane, an intermediate of silicone resin, based on the Grignard reaction, especially the "direct synthesis method" invented by Rocho in 1941, promoted the arrival of the industrialization period of silicone resin. It brought about a major revolution in the production of silicone, making the industrial production of silicone possible and laying a technical foundation for the large-scale development of silicone compounds.

  Since 1966, in addition to consolidating, developing, improving and utilizing the existing achievements, people have also turned to the new field of organosilicon. Compounds that were once considered impossible to synthesize can now be synthesized.
